It’s pretty clear by now that Emojis are changing the way we communicate through text and email. But is it possible that the ideogram fad could be carving its way into actual spoken language?

Well, according to the Golden Globe winning TV series Brooklyn Nine Nine, they already have.

On this week’s episode, “Charges and Specs”, the hilarious NYPD crew pondered about ways to cheer up their comrade. That’s when Gina, the precinct secretary, decided to offer her input by incorporating spoken emoji through her speech.

And why would anyone ever want to turn smiley face icons and cartoon cat pictures into actual language?

“The English language can not fully capture the depth and complexity of my thoughts, so I’m incorporating emoji into my speech to better express myself. Winky Face.”

At least that’s what Gina said.

Ok, so how would someone form a sentence using mostly emojis you ask?

“Break-ups are a cartoony thumbs down. They make people feel face with exes for the eyes.”

Well, it certainly is an interesting and funny concept. However, it’s not too far off to think that with the way our language is constantly evolving, this could happen.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but hear me out. While it may never make it’s way into the culture of the older generation, I firmly believe that spoken word emoji could find it’s way into the likes of young children and teens.

Think about it. Emojis are used everyday by millions of people in text messages. Sooner or later some wide-eyed teenager is going to cutely going to say “I’m sad face” or “I’m chicken leg,” and bam! A whole new slang fad is born through the impressionable youth.

• “I was driving my tiny blue car cartoon last crescent moon face, when I lightning bolt into a cute cow face cartoon”
• “My man with a mustache got beer glasses, face with exes for eyes, and totally sick face”
• “I was man walking my cute dog face when he ate burger icon and french fry icon and happy poop face, happy poop face everywhere”

It may seem crazy, but mark my words and be warned the emoji revolution will happen. And when it does happen, just make sure you have your emoji dictionary handy.
